Friends are the sunshine of life – John Hay
Dear Auntie Em,
Today is your birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, I hope you are having the best day!
This time last year you were poking me in the head/bum in Mummy ‘s tummy and talking about me. My name was ‘Baby A’ then which seems silly now. I heard you had a party for me and I wasn’t even here yet. You bought me lots of presents, I found a tiny little elephant the other day that Mummy said was from you. I think I liked you even then, when all you did was poke and prod me.
When I came out into the world you were in China (can you believe that was almost a year ago). You were the first person Mummy text when they decided what my real name was. I’m glad we have the same one! I knew the first day I met you that we would be friends. You can make me smile when I refuse to smile for Mummy and Daddy. I like that game the best!
Emily means hard working – which you definitely are. And I hope that I am too. It also means striving and eager.
Mummy said it was in a book as one of the worst names to call a baby but I’m glad it is ours to share. Granny thinks I’m going to be left handed so maybe we will share that too!
Thank you for coming to play all the time, for changing my nappy, for taking me swimming, shopping and out for food. Thank you for taking your car apart so you can fit my pushchair in. Thank you for the panda from China, the lamb for Easter and the unicorn you won me in Lichfield.
Thank you for all the play dates, for sharing your lunch and for letting me pull your eyelashes off that time. Thank you for keeping Mummy sane and for being available all hours of the day to listen to Mummy say ‘is this normal’. Thank you for letting me trash your house, squeal at Paddy and crawl around your Nanas house. Thank you for celebrating my successes and cuddling me when I’m sad. Thank you for treating me like your own and loving on me. Thank you for being the best Auntie Em in the world!
I have had so much fun getting to know you the last 11 months and I’m so excited for adventures in the future. I love you lots Auntie Em and I know Mummy does too.
Lots of love Baba Em (and Mummy too) xx
