Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, and it can also be the most expensive time of the year for many. With all of the decorations, presents, gift wrap, food and drinks: it can feel as if you are bankrupt when it gets to the end of the year. Make sure you try and save some money on your festivities this year with these easy tips.
Make a pact with your family
If you are in a stage of your life where money is a bit of an issue, paying for things at this time of the year can be hard. Struggling financially due to debt or small wages can be hard and you will want to try everything you can to get back on track financially and even boost your credit score by 100 points to be able to buy a house in the future. If you are struggling with money just tell your family. Make a pact together that every one of you can only spend £10 per person. It might not seem like a lot but it can be the perfect amount for a good bottle of wine, a couple of books, some pyjamas… make this Christmas more about spending time together than the presents and you will likely all be happier for it.
Have a potluck Christmas
If you enjoy potluck lunches and you want to try one yourself this year, why not make it for Christmas Day? Instead of one person slaving away in the kitchen all day, have everyone bring a side dish or a dessert for the meal and the host can focus on the meat itself. This will ensure that everyone gets something they like and it can save a lot of stress and money on Christmas Day for the host.
Make the most of bulk buying
If you usually buy bottles of wine for certain members of the family around this time of the year, instead of buying them separately make sure you buy them all at the same time. You can visit Costco for example and grab a box of wine for a cheap price and still be able to give your family a good quality gift. It makes much more sense and it is just easier for everyone all round.
If you enjoy being a bit creative during the winter you can have some fun at the weekend by making your own gifts for family and friends. For example you can paint pictures if you are talented at art, you can make candles out of old jars you have in the house, and you can even make a herb garden out of an old wooden box for someone who loves to cook. A great way to use some vodka is to make skittles flavoured vodka by infusing some vodka with your favourite colour skittles for a few hours! There are tons of great gift ideas online so have some fun playing around and make a gift which really says something about you and the person you are gifting it to.
